108 feet statue of Madappa will be inaugurated on March 18
The 108-feet statue of Male Mahadeshwar built on the Male Mahadeshwar Hill in Hanur Taluk, one of the most important temples of the state, is being inaugurated on March 18.
A 108-feet tall statue of Madappa has been prepared in Mugilettara on the ground of the deity "Maykara" Madappa, which is owned by innumerable devotees, and Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai will dedicate it on Saturday. Besides, the silver chariot built by the authority will also be dedicated.
This is a project costing ₹20 crore and currently, only the construction of the statue has been completed. Other works, including a museum narrating the life of Mahadeswaraswamy, an open-air theater at the place of the statue, and the development of herbal forests, are yet to be done.
The 108 feet tall statue is built in two tiers. A statue of Mahadeshwara Swamy seated on a tiger and holding a trident is carved on the rock formation.
The rock formation has two floors in the form of a cave. At the base of the Mahadeshwar hill, a museum will be built to convey the history and heritage of Mahadeshwar to devotees and tourists, including the creation of artworks and resting places for devotees.
The statue of Mahadeshwar was built entirely of concrete and the responsibility of the construction was given to PSRP Architect Company of Bangalore. The company had also successfully built the 117 feet tall Basaveshwara idol at Gadag and the Shiva idol at Ramdurga. This background was also given the responsibility of constructing the statue of Mahadeshwar.
The unveiling of Mahadeshwar's statue has already been met with widespread opposition on social media, and the devotees are furious, accusing the government of dedicating an incomplete work to the public for political gain.
